Beware of Scam Escrow Services

I thought now would be a good time to write a post about some of the terrible ways in which domain owners can be scammed and either lose their domain name(s) or hard earned money. Normally when you think of stolen domain names immediately Pay Pal scams and hacked registrar accounts come to mind. While those are certainly common ways for domains to be stolen, scam Escrow services can be even worse hurting both the buyer and the seller as the scam service walks away with all the dough or domains.

Escrow Scam Alert

Believe it or not there are new scam Escrow services popping-up all the time and one new one was recently reported to me that I wanted to share with all of you. The service is called Cheap Domain Escrow and can be found at CheapDomainEscrow.com. If you receive an email from anyone requesting for you to use this service, head for the hills, they’re trying to scam you.

You can search for other scam escrow services using a handy site, Escrow-Fraud.com. If anyone ever asks you to use an escrow service you haven’t heard of make sure to check here first.

I personally recommend Escrow.com, eCop and Afternic DN Escrow all of which are very safe and reliable. So next time you think you’ve just made a huge sale, make sure you aren’t walking into a huge scam, because the two situations can look very similar at first, but both have very different outcomes.

Update! I was just notified that CheapDomainEscrow.com has been taken down as of this evening, so that’s one less scam escrow site out there!
