The major blogs actually hire someone to sift through comments to prevent spam from getting through. This will discourage spammers and give back good faith people the right to type a www by habit again without being accused of spam. I don't know if it's technically feasible with wordpress, but it would be a nice and simple way to solve the problem. No ?
