Weekend Musings

Our New Neighbors

Hello, Happy Saturday, and welcome to my weekend musings. It has been an incredibly busy week at Fashion Metric, we are at a point now where we are talking with new brands every week, pushing updates to the platform on a daily basis, and working with customers all over the world. It has been incredibly inspiring to hear the passion and energy each designer puts into their line and it is so exciting to help these designers share their clothes and story with the world.

What’s great about fashion is the heart and soul of it all. People don’t start a fashion line as a way to make a quick buck, they do it because they absolutely love clothes. Every day they come to work and solve problems most of us never think about, how can I create something truly unique that people love to wear.

Here’s a great example and one of our most-popular shirts, it’s a completely custom made French Blue Chambray shirt from Second Button in NYC. Not only is every single shirt hand made to the exact dimensions of our customer’s body, but the fabric feels amazing and the design is so unique you know you’ll never bump-into someone wearing the same shirt:

With clothes it’s all about the little touches, the things that help you stand out from the crowd and the contrast collar, sleeves and placket on this shirt do just that. Yes, our lives are now focused on fashion and technology and our fit technology is helping men buy shirts online without having to worry about fit, finally!

Of course, as a startup we all wear many hats and it’s pretty amazing to see the number of things we do in a single day. It’s also a major reminder of why it’s so important to do something like this full time. If we were trying to do this on top of a full time job it just wouldn’t be possible, we’re spending 12-hours a day and still finding there aren’t enough hours in the day. We’re growing the team at the same time which means interviewing candidates and checking references has also become a part of daily life, suffice it to say that there is never a dull moment.

On the domain side Linton Investments had their best month of 2013 in June which is pretty exciting considering it is the month I spent the least amount of time in the business. At the end of the day a great team makes a big difference and I feel so lucky to have a truly incredible group getting it done. We are now actively working with ~25 startups on domain acquisition deals ranging from as little as $15,000 all the way up to $600,000.

It never ceases to amaze me how different every single domain deal is but it’s really true, every single name and every single owner is completely different. That being said there’s nothing like the feeling of helping an awesome startup get the name of their dreams and then watching them build their dream company around the name.

We have a Fashion Metric meeting this afternoon and I want to grab a bite to each before we go, hope you’re all having a great weekend!
