Yahoo and Bing Make a BIG Move in iPhone OS4 – Do You Know About It?

by Morgan on June 24, 2010

I was just reading one of my favorite search engine blogs, SearchEngineLand.com, when I came-across a very interesting article about what Yahoo and Bing are doing to promote their services in the latest iPhone OS4 release.

So what’s all the fuss about? Both Yahoo and Bing have added a very interesting feature to OS4; when you search on either Bing or Yahoo a dialog box now appears asking if you’d like to make it your default search engine. The “OK” button is already highlighted, what would the average user do?

Since the new OS just came-out it will take some time to really start to see if this change has any impact on Yahoo and Bing’s market-share. I’m assuming the exact same thing happens on the iPad so I think it’s something to keep an eye on. I know for me I search about 95% of the time I use the browser on my iPhone and the average user has become very familiar with search as a quick way to find what they’re looking for. Microsoft has done some pretty serious marketing for Bing, and if they can get iPhone and iPad users to visit the site just once…they might now be able to turn them into an everyday visitor.
