3 Things To Do + 3 Things Not To Do At TRAFFIC This Week

TRAFFIC Florida 2013

I am already hearing from people who are enjoying an afternoon by the pool at the Ritz. That’s right TRAFFIC is here and that means Domainers from around the world will be getting together in Southern Florida for one heck of a week. I’ve said it many times before but I’ll say it again, I love TRAFFIC, it has been not just a critical accelerator for Linton Investments, it has also been where I get-together with people who have become lifelong friends.

This year Daina and I will be in Fashion Metric meetings in Northern California so won’t be able to make it out but you can expect to see us at TRAFFIC in Vegas next year! Still, even though we’re not there I am sure we’ll hear some great stories about what’s about to transpire over the next week. If you’re headed to TRAFFIC there’s still time to hone your approach and avoid some common pitfalls and get the most out of your time.

Ready to rock? Let’s go!

3 Things To Do At TRAFFIC

  1. Meetings, meetings, and more meetings – TRAFFIC brings together some of the best and brightest in the Domaining community from all over the world. Plan ahead and make meetings in advance. While you will definitely have plenty of serendipitous  meetings (which is one of the best parts of TRAFFIC), you can really maximize your opportunity by coming with a clear goal in mind and the people you need to meet with and strike deals with to achieve your goals.
  2. Attend the auction – there are some awesome domains in the auction and as someone that bought names in the auction in Vegas and in Florida last year I can tell you this is a great part of the show not to be overlooked.
  3. Wear sunscreen – I burn really really easily, you might too, don’t wait to find-out. Wear sunscreen. The Ritz in Fort Lauderdale is an awesome hotel and the pool area is great for networking, just remember a little sunscreen really can make a big difference!

3 Things Not To Do At TRAFFIC

  1. Don’t Be That Guy (or Gal) – without fail there is always someone who gets a bit too drunk at a show. While I would never out these people on my blog, we’ve all seen it happen, and no, you really don’t want it to be you. Drink, party, have a blast, just try not to be the guy with the lampshade around your head at 4AM.
  2. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself – if it’s you’re first TRAFFIC you might be afraid to walk up to someone like Rick Schwartz or Frank Schilling, don’t be. You will kick yourself when you get home. I think you’ll quickly find that the domain community is incredibly friendly and inviting. If you see your hero in the crowd, walk up and say hello, you never know what you might learn from it.
  3. Don’t sleep in – you are going to be up late. Don’t use that as an excuse to sleep in until noon. Business is happening around the clock at TRAFFIC, you can rest when you get home, go to TRAFFIC to do business, and have a blast while you’re doing it.
