3 WordPress Themes For Those Who Love To Customize

As you probably know I’m a big fan of WordPress. We use WordPress now for just about every major brand we operate and as a result have had the chance to review literally hundreds of themes. WordPress themes come in all different flavors but my favorite are the “blank canvas” themes which are great for people who love to customize, but aren’t too interested in monkeying around with HTML, CSS or PHP.

The three themes below I have used extensively myself (in fact two of them have been used to run this blog) and are definitely great ways to build a custom site using WordPress.

canvas

Woo Themes Canvas – I’m a big Woo Themes geek. They have some of the most solid, bug free themes on the planet complete with great user interfaces that make them easy to configure. Canvas is like the name says, essentially a blank canvas. It’s easy to get a basic site up and running but you can also make something completely custom without writing any code and without having to decode a cryptic interface like you’ll find with many WordPress themes.

DIY Themes Thesis – this was the previous theme I used to run my blog and it is probably the most heavily customizable theme out there. Honestly you can tweak every single parameter you could possibly imagine all from a deep, yet easy to navigate user interface. Although I love this theme it had so many more bells and whistles than I needed that I opted for another great theme that had a bit less going on. That being said if you want maximum control over a truly blank canvas, this is the theme for you. Oh and the DIY Themes support is second-to-none which is nice for anyone that wants to learn along the way.

standard_theme

Standard Theme – last but most certainly not least is Standard Theme by 8Bit. This is the current theme I’m using on my blog and I absolutely love it. While it is not quite as customizable as Canvas or Thesis it looks pretty darn slick out of the box. Cool custom widgets also make sidebar customization easy while still packing in some pretty powerful features.
