5 things you probably didn’t know about the 4th of July

4th-of-july-2016

Hello and happy 4th of July to all the MorganLinton.com readers in the United States, the Philippines, and Rwanda! As we get close to the nine-year anniversary of my blog it’s incredible to see how my readership has grown and spread across the globe. While over 50% of my readers come from the US, my readership in both Europe and Asia has grown tremendously over the years and I do have readers in the Philippines and Rwanda that are also celebrating today.

If you’re in the US and going to some kind of a 4th of July event, here are five fun facts you can share with people and sound like a history buff, and no, I didn’t know all of these myself so don’t feel bad if you didn’t either.

  1. The colonies did not declare independence on July 4th, they actually did it on the 2nd
  2. As you probably noticed above, 4th of July isn’t just a holiday in the US, it’s also a holiday in the Philippines and Rwanda. In the Philippines it’s called Republic Day and in Rwanda it’s called Liberation Day
  3. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the 4th of July, not only that, but they died in the same year within around 5 hours of each other
  4. In July of 1776 2.5 million people lived in the United States
  5. The average age of a Declaration of Independence signer was forty-five, the youngest of the fifty-six signers was twenty-six
