Since I started buying and selling domain names, Go Daddy has been my registrar of choice, and before I go any further, it’s important for me to say this. I have really enjoyed getting to know so many amazing people at Go Daddy, from Paul Nicks to Joe Styler, I can say with confidence that Go Daddy has some truly amazing people in their organization.
That being said, and I’m certainly not the first person to point this out – Go Daddy has a lot of bugs, and over the thirteen years I’ve used them unfortunately I’ve seen things get worse from a software-side, not better. One of the people who has been the most vocal about Go Daddy’s bugs is my buddy Shane, who has lately seen the Go Daddy site default to a different country ever time he visits:
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. But like I said above, there are so many great people at Go Daddy I want to be 100% clear, I’m not leaving because of the people, but all the bugs did cause me to start exploring other solutions.
So why EPIK?
For years different people in the domain industry have told me why they love EPIK and I’ve heard them, but it was EPIK winning the NamePros registrar contest that made me really give it some serious thought.
So I decided it was time to do a deeper dive. Along with talking to some friends who have been long time EPIK customers, I spent some time really reviewing the solution, and I was impressed. From the Dashboard that’s fast, efficient, and seems to be bug free, to the support which so far has lived up to its moniker as “legendary,” EPIK does seem to be the real deal.
As I’ve been moving domain names over to EPIK I’ve been able to get more comfortable with the UX and I have to say, there’s something calming about an experience that isn’t trying to upsell me into a million things and doesn’t have a bunch of bugs and error messages along the way.
Additionally, EPIK’s Escrow service is, well, the bomb. Seriously, I don’t see any reason why I would use Escrow.com again, not only is EPIK Escrow saving me money, it’s also saving a lot of time and adding an additional layer of security that buyers definitely appreciate.
Of course, I’m only a few weeks in so who knows, maybe this is just the honeymoon period, I could end up regretting my decision. But as of today, I’m one happy camper, the experience has been great so far and I’m really impressed by the EPIK team who honestly seems to be available every waking hour, pretty much instantly, which is damn impressive.
Like everything I do on my blog, I’ll continue to report back and keep you in the loop. If I run into pitfalls, I’ll share them. If I find cool features I never knew existed, yup – I’ll share those too. If you’re reading, you’re coming along for the ride, good or bad.
For those of you who use EPIK, it would be great to hear more about features you like and things I might not know about that should. As always, I want to hear from you so comment away and let your voice be heard.
2020 is the year I’m leaving Go Daddy and going to EPIK, this is the first post in my journey, stay-tuned, there’s more to come!
