Breaking: Flippa Offering Domain Listings At 50%-Off For One Week

flippa

Flippa, the popular website sales marketplace is making some big moves and in the process putting more focus on domain names than ever before. The company has seen an increased interest in domains and next week they are making it easier than ever for people to list their domains for sale on the platform.

For one week starting tomorrow (Monday, December 9th) at 9:00AM PST the price to list domains for sale on Flippa is being reduced by 50% down to $15. The re-listing fee is also being cut in half. This is the first time Flippa has made a move like this and it’s not the only move their making to make life a lot easier for domain name owners.

Flippa recently added categories for domains making it easier for buyers to find names and before Christmas they are going to be adding more search refinement options like domain length, number of worlds, brandable vs. non-brandable, etc.

There are some monster names for sale on Flippa right now like Profile.com and Commodity.com and as they continue to fine-tune their platform I think we are going to see more and more domain owners giving the platform a shot. The biggest complaint I’ve heard about Flippa over the years is the listing fees, which at $30 can be incredibly pricey for a portfolio owner trying to list hundreds of domains.

At the same time, there is an advantage to the listing fee which is that the platform doesn’t get completely loaded-up with junk. I’ve always felt that listing fees do work as a good filter because it really pushes domain owners to only list their best names for sale. Still at $30/listing this can get pretty darn expensive.

With the fees chopped in half next week I plan to list a handful of domains and as usual I’ll share my experiences with all of you. Like most sales platform I think pricing is key. Names like Commodity.com priced at $750,000 I think are missing the boat, there really aren’t buyers in this range actively searching for domains on Flippa. That being said, there have been plenty of nice domain sales on Flippa.

Yesterday FindHow.com sold for $9,950 and two days ago Taste.info sold for $2,600 along with QRP.com for $8,950. Put a solid name up for sale and price it right and Flippa definitely has the buyers. It will be interesting to see how a week at 50%-off impacts the listings, I look forward to sharing my sales results with all of you as well as any buys I end-up making.

One thing is certain, Flippa is shaking things up and while they became famous for selling websites, domains are clearly in their crosshairs now.
