Do you still make money parking domains?

While it’s no secret that parking revenue has declined massively over the last ten years, I’m always surprised to hear of people making good money parking. I feel like every year I end up in a conversation with someone at NamesCon and the conversation moves to parking and they have one of two perspectives:

  1. Parking is dead
  2. Parking is alive and well

I often find that there isn’t much middle ground, people either feel one way or the other. I find myself in the first camp, I do think parking is mostly dead. However, like I said above, I’m always surprised when I bump-into someone who makes good money parking, it’s still happening and there are some parking services that are still alive and well.

So I thought now would be a good time to take a poll. Do you make money parking domains? If so, I’d be interested to know if you’ve bought any names in the last year or two that make decent parking revenue, and if you’re willing to share, where you found them.

I want to hear from you, comment and let your voice be heard!

Still money there but it is declining every year and has been since it peaked in 2006.

Parking still makes money, but not for domainers.

IMO there is still money in parking domains.
I can recommend the Uniregistry parking program. Of course the overall revenues are way down from 10 years ago but for some names especially in categories like legal and health I see some very strong PPC’s.

zero click solutions only way to go. admarketplace, parklogic, protectparking and so many others. Yes it’s alive and doing well. Only about 20% of names will do well but it means they will do 10 to 100x of what you get on your current clicks. If your getting clicks on a name at least put up a one page lander and tie it to a amazon affiliate site. 2-8%. Most domainers have no idea how to monetize names. Losing$$$ every month.

“Parking is dead” please repeat these words thousands times. Yes, parking is dead. I have been parked my 300 plus domain names in various marketplace (like Sedo, Afternic etc), I did not get a single penny so far for the last three years. Even though there were clicks on my domain names. It seems all revenues goes to them only, the domain owners do not get a cent. There may be some exceptional SHARKS, who may be getting some dollars as parking revenue. You park your domain names but do not expect any revenue out of it. Of course parking increases the chances of more sales.

Google has recently devalued sites that do not give Google patrons exactly what they are looking for.
    Domain ppc is dead imo.

For a start, congrats to Morgan for blogging for so long!
We’ve been monetising domains for clients for over 11 years and I can assure you that if you have real traffic then monetising is alive and well. Notice that I used the word monetising and not parking. Domain parking is only one part of the overall revenue mix. If you place all of your domains with a single parking solution then you WILL be leaving a LOT of money on the table. We’ve developed a platform that assesses every bit of traffic within 100 milliseconds and sends it to the winning solution at that instant in time. The result is that we typically increase revenues by around 30-50%. So is domain parking dead? Not really….but domain monetisation is alive and well.

Thanks @Michael – appreciate the kind words! Agreed – I think your making a good distinction here, I also think that’s why you guys are still alive and well while so many individual parking services have bit the dust. Thank you for doing what you do my friend!
