Doing Ten Things At Once? How Well Are You Doing Each?

Do you ever feel completely overloaded? If so then you’re not alone. As society has progressed over the last fifty years, so has the number of things we think we can do at once. Notice I say “think” here – that’s because doing many things at once usually means doing many things pretty well, rather than one or two things really well.

It might be easier said than done but one of the best ways to improve your productivity is to actually do less. I’ve posted about this before and feel it is important to approach this subject from a different angle.

So here’s the question – are you really going to be more successful doing the ten things your are doing – rather than just focusing on one or two of them? If you think the answer is “yes” then you might be in the process of learning the hard way.

I think Domainers might just be some of the most overloaded people on the planet. Why? Because they have more property than any traditional real estate investor would – and they want to develop it, or sell it, ASAP! See the nice thing about being a physical real estate investor is that no matter what, you’re going to focus on one or two projects – there usually isn’t money for more!

With domains you can easily find yourself with hundreds of domains and not a clue which to sell, which to develop, and which to let drop. Sound familiar?

As a domain investor, developer, broker and blogger I can easily find myself with too much to do and not enough time. When this happens I open-up a Word doc and make a list of all the things I have to do. Then I force myself to only do one of those things a day. It’s amazing how this simple trick can help you focus.

Just think…what are you planning to do when you finish this post? My guess is you have a bunch of things you plan to do. STOP! Open Word, make your list, and do just one of those things – tomorrow you can do one more.

Well now you might be saying, “Thanks a lot Morgan, you’ve just killed my productivity” – but you’re wrong. What this will do is improve the quality of your work more than you could possibly imagine. It might not be easy to do at first but over time you might just find that you can put more focus on each of your projects – now you just have to pick what projects are the most important!
