Domain Development Update – Kayaking.Org Makes Google Page One!

Yesterday was an exciting day as I logged-into my Google Webmaster account and saw that I was listed on the first page of Google for the search term, “kayak online,” one of the keywords I am targeting with Kayaking.org. In case you’ve missed any of my previous posts about developing Kayaking.org and building the brand you can follow the progression below:

It’s been a lot of work so far and I’m only just getting started, but it’s little things like this that affirm I’m taking the right steps. While my real goal is to get on the first page of Google for the keyword “kayaking” I’m happy to be on the first page of Bing for “kayaking” and the first page of Google for “kayak online” now.

Let me be clear – this is a minor victory along the road of a major journey. There are a lot more popular keyword phrases than this in the Kayaking world, but getting onto the first page of Google for this phrase is still a step forward. I still have a lot of things to do to but I’m a methodical guy and like to do things at a pace where I can easily measure the results. Below are a few of things I’m doing now to get the SEO fundamental in place on the site:

  • Title Tags – I have talked about the importance of the Title tag in many previous posts. I still need to make unique titles for each page of Kayaking targeting the top keywords for each topic.
  • Link-Building – this week I am reaching-out to Kayaking stores across the US and hopefully inspiring some to add their business to my paid directory
  • Fresh Content – unique content is important but a steady flow of Fresh content is what Google really likes to see.
  • Twitter – I am using Twitter to reach-out to Kayakers, Kayaking stores, and Kayaking groups to get them to interact with the site more. I’ve reached out to people that share pictures and asked if they can send me picts from their trips to include on the site, submit their trip reports to Kayaking.org, etc.

There are a few other things I’m doing on the SEO-side that I’ll share with all of you in more detail as time goes on. For now I’ll take my minor victory and continue to work just as hard to build the #1 Kayaking brand online! When building a site like this it’s important to remember that you’re not just building a website – you’re building a business!

Also – don’t forget that my company does domain development and can build sites just like this for your domains! We are getting ready to release some brand-new development options this week including a Lead Generation site that should be great for domain owners with credit, debt, and law-related domains!
