Domaining SEO Sunday: Top Three Things To Remember About SEO in 2011

Okay, I have less than 16 minutes to write this post otherwise it will no longer be an SEO Sunday, it will be an SEO Monday. To make it short and sweet I thought I’d do a quick refresher on three of the biggest SEO mistakes I’ve seen people make so you can start your development projects off the right way in 2011. If you’re making any of these mistakes – stop it, they’re so easy to fix but can go a long way towards getting you to the coveted first page of Google!

  1. Keyword rich title tag. So many people just have their domain in the title or one word. Take the time to put-together a good title, it’s a part of both Google and Bing’s ranking algorithm and is the main headline people see in the search results – if they don’t like it, they might not ever visit your site!
  2. Unique content. In 2011 Google has sworn to go ever further to punish those using duplicate content so make sure you have nice, clean unique content or you may pay the price.
  3. Backlinks. If you want to rank well for competitive terms you’ll need some good backlinks. I can’t tell you how many people say to me, “but I thought all I needed was an exact-match domain!” That domain is only part of the puzzle, to rank well where the traffic is you’ll need some link love unless all you care about is Bing…but come’on we all know Google is the king!

Phew, all done and with 11 minutes to spare…now just what am I going to to with all that free time 🙂 Of course I could write a list with 100 SEO tips in it but even I would fall asleep writing that…and you reading it!
