Dot XYZ gets a mention on HBO’s Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley is one of the few tv shows I watch week in and week out, this week’s episode without giving away any spoilers to the show, did feature .XYZ.

After I watched the episode I did see Name.com tweeted it out.

The domain Hooli.xyz is registered and has a picture of “Big Head” on the website.

Now I’m not a fan of XYZ fan but that’s really cool for those involved. As far as Silicon Valley what an incredible show Mike judge rules.

I’m sitting on the couch watch SV with my wife last night and the guy on TV mentions “Hooli XYZ” and then clearly on the powerpoint slide you could see “Hooli.xyz”…I yelled, “Did you see that? They’re advertising a .xyz domain! Isn’t that cool?”

My wife looks at me, and without a bit of sarcasm, says: “Why in the world would anyone want a .xyz domain?”, followed by: “I hope you didn’t buy any…”

Looking at the picture that is the only way that most people would know that is a website name, without the www it looks like someone just put a period in between two word. I saw one the other day on a bluray movie, I can’t remember what it was but it was something like bluray.movie. Like oh cool I am watching a bluray movie lol! To make it look right you have to put http://www.bluray.movie

I agree with with you on the look. Because brands have used the period before when it wasn’t a legitimate extension, Sony has used Make.Believe and then there is the ever popular Booking.Yeah.
