DownloadTube.org Sells for $9,000 on Flippa

DownloadTube.org, a domain name that was just re-registered by someone in September of this year sold for $9,000 on Flippa. That’s right, in only a few months they were able to take a domain they paid $10 for and re-sell it for $9,000. If this isn’t a heroic flip I don’t know what is. If you look at the site you’ll see it’s a very simple concept, a service that lets you download online videos.

Doesn’t look like a wildly complicated site right? No major bells and whistles, not much content to speak of. So how they heck did they sell it for $9,000? Easy. The flipper who sold this site understood the power of social media and built a facebook app that he tied-into the site. This brought the traffic and with it the revenue. Notice the seller is only claiming revenue of $350/month but buyers are willing to pay $9,000 for the domain + site because of the business behind it.

I think that social media is often the missing link preventing many Domainer-developers from really taking their brands to the next level. A flat site with some content is just that, a website. Add in social media and you’re on the road to creating a brand. Remember though, once you build a brand looks to sites like Flippa to sell it…too many Domainers would gloss over a domain like this since the initial focus would be the name itself and not the business behind it!
