Fashion Friday: Virtusize Disrupts The Virtual Fitting Room

Fashion Friday

Virtual Fitting rooms have been a hot spot in the Fashion Tech world. The idea behind a virtual fitting room is to get as close to the experience of trying on clothes in-person, online. There have been a number of players in this space like Fits.me, Meality, and Metail all of which have been working hard to help consumers take an experience that normally happens in a clothing store, and bringing it the net.

This week, Sweden-based started Virtusize announced a deal with European fashion retailer ASOS that will help their users try before they buy. As someone that has tried just about every solution in this space I have to say I am very impressed with Virtusize and think that opting for 2D vs. 3D may turn out to be a secret to their success.

Virtusize Sizing

As you can see from the image above, Virtusize allows you to load in a 2D image of your garment and overlay the garment you are looking at buying on top of it. This will allow you to instantly see whether something is too big, too small, or, you guessed it, just right.

Companies like Fits.me have focused on 3D visualization and only time will tell whether 2D or 3D works the best for online shoppers. The virtual fitting room space is still up for grabs with no go-to solution emerging as of yet however Virtusize does look like a promising step in the right direction.

Virtusize Website

As many of you know, I am a co-founder of Los Angeles-based Fashion Metric, the Pandora of Menswear. Like Pandora who asks people for their favorite song, we ask men for some very basic information about their favorite dress shirt. We then show them shirts from designers all over the world that you can’t find on sites like Amazon or at your local mall. Our fit technology allows men to search based on style without ever having to pick a size because we’ve taken care of that behind-the-scenes.

We are a B-to-C company which means that we’re always looking at cool B-to-B solutions like Virtusize that we could plug-into our platform to add functionality. However, for us it’s all about learning from our customers and adding in functionality that they want. One thing is certain, Virtusize has built an awesome solution and a great team and we look forward to watching them continue to innovate in the Fashion Tech space.

Happy Fashion Friday to all!
