I read a great article while eating lunch today by Michael Gray from Wolf-Howl.com on the value of getting links from directories. Michael still feels there is value to being included in paid directories and shares his recommendations in this article:
IMHO there are four directories that every website should try to be listed in: Yahoo, Business.com, Botw and DMOZ. Three of those are require an annual review fee. DMOZ is free; however, getting into DMOZ is considerably harder than it used to be. I recommend submitting and not obsessing over it if you don’t get in. Michael Gray (Wolf-Howl.com)
While I would not recommend you sink close to $1,000 into link-building for all of your sites – it’s definitely worth it in some cases – especially for people launching full-scale businesses on their domains. Enjoy the article and remember – a little link love can go a long way!
