Google gives Samsung some real competition with Daydream VR headset

Google went big today coming out with their brand new cellphone, the Pixel, and their Samsung Gear VR competitor, the $79 VR headset called the Daydream. I’ll be honest, I own a GearVR and a Samsung Gear S7 and the Daydream does look much sleeker on first glance.

Of course looks aren’t everything, at the end of the day it’s all about the quality of the VR experience and the content that’s available for it. Along with some of the apps we all know at love, Google also announced some exclusive content that looks like it will be available only to Daydream customers.

One of my biggest issues with the Gear VR is that it’s a bit clunky and heavier than I would like, in short, it feels like a v1 product, still cool, but clearly an early-stage product. The Daydream was designed to be much lighter, and more comfortable to wear, couple this with the fact that it comes with a controller and I’m thinking my Gear VR is going to feel a bit old school very soon.

While the Daydream won’t be out until November something tells me I’m going to end up pre-ordering this, just like I did the Oculus Rift, what can I say, I’m gaga for all things VR. Yes, it means I’ll have to get another phone, but I’m also a gadget nerd so I don’t see much of a downside here either.
