Here are some SEO habits you’ll want to kick going into 2020

Well it’s time to say goodbye to 2019, and with that it also hopefully a bad habit or two. Gym memberships tend to skyrocket in January so for many people one common New Years resolution is to get in shape, but bad habits extend beyond your personal health.

SEO is one of those things that unless you stay plugged-into the industry, it’s hard to know if the techniques you’re using still provide the impact you’re expecting them to make. Bad SEO habits can easily be confused with good ones which means you might be doing extra work that you think is helping your SEO, when in fact you’re doing the exact opposite.

Today Search Engine Journal published a solid article sharing nine bad SEO habits you’ll want to kick going into 2020. Two that caught my eye that I think many people still really need to kick are:

  1. Aggressive link building – gone are the days of bulk buying links or hiring agencies that build up a ton of backlinks for you over a short period of time. Google can see if your site goes from 10 backlinks to 10,000…and uh, yeah – they know that’s not organic.
  2. Slow page load times – for those who missed the memo, Google announced that they would be using page load speed in their ranking algorithm starting in 2018. This is one I think gets overlooked way too much, especially on mobile.

The article also mentions another article about outdated SEO practices you should avoid. If SEO is something that’s important to you, and you haven’t been paying attention to how things have changed over the last couple of years, reading both of these articles is probably a good idea.

I’m no SEO expert myself, but I know that I do have some SEO pros who read my blog, feel free to comment below and share some tips or tricks you think might be relevant going into 2020. I want to hear from you, comment and let your voice be heard!
