Here’s a little trick to taste domains through BrandBucket

I wrote an article in October about the domain liquidation option that is available to anyone that has domain names listed on BrandBucket. If you didn’t read the article, here’s a quick recap – BrandBucket will give you 1% of the suggested price minus $9 if you want to sell the name to them.

While 1% might not sound like a lot, it’s a lot more than $0 if you were just going to drop the domain and it gives you a potential liquidation path for a slew of names if you have a lot of domains listed at BrandBucket.

What I didn’t think of is something that BrandBucket shared on Twitter today that a seller on their platform recently pointed out…and it’s pretty interesting. Here’s the skinny:

So like the tweet says, someone did the math and figured out that if you play your cards right, you can actually use BrandBucket’s liquidation option to “taste” domains. You could, in theory, register a bunch of domains, and if you have a good eye and they all get accepted by BrandBucket, if none sell at the end of the year you could just sell them all to them and poof, not a dime of your money was lost.

Domain tasting is a way some major players in the domain industry have made a fortune over the years, if you haven’t heard about it at scale, I’ll save that for another post. This is a pretty interesting discovery and I’m wondering who will be the first to really make a run at trying this as a viable means to taste domains?
