I Am Now A Proud Member Of The ICA

I am happy to announce that a few weeks ago I joined the ICA. I also have to say that I wish I had joined a few years ago because I have already seen how incredibly valuable and vital this organization is to all of us. Although I am a very new member I joined at a historic time as the ICA was working hard to help keep .COM prices where they are.

If you only own a few domains this might not impact you, but as Domainers we all own lots of domains which means that if renewal prices increase, our yearly expenses increase. This is something that is very near and dear to my heart as I want to take every dollar I can and re-invest it into my business, this is the #1 way to grow your business, if you find something that works, keep investing in it!

Since I have joined the ICA I’m now on a mailing list that has become one of my absolute favorite daily reads. It’s a bit like a window into a world that I didn’t know existed has now been opened and I’m left wondering how I was able to be in the industry for so long without being in the loop on what’s going on behind-the-scenes.

I know that many of my readers are new Domainers who might not know what the ICA is so let me explain very briefly. ICA stands for Internet Commerce Association and their role is to protect the rights of domain owners. There’s a huge difference between a legitimate domain investor and a cyber-squatter yet many people in the general public think they are one and the same. The ICA works hard to protect all of us who legitimately invest in domains and make our living off of domain names.

Right now 100% of my income comes from domain investing so the issues that the ICA are tackling are incredibly important to me. If you think it costs a fortune to join, think again. Donations can start as low as $1,000 and given that I made over $45,000 in a single month this year (don’t worry, I’ll talk about this more in a blog post coming up soon!) that really is a no-brainer.

Now that I am part of the ICA I’m going to be sharing more on my blog about issues that impact all of us who run businesses in the domain space. We have to stick together and I’ll tell you we are darn lucky to have an organization like the ICA working hard for us. I can tell you they went above-and-beyond to keep .COM prices where they are and this probably saved you quite a bit of money, without them I’m not sure this would have happened.

So I’m proud to say I’m a member of the ICA and seeing the list of other members I can tell you, I am in very good company. If you’d like to find-out more about the organization make sure to check-out their about page.

@Adam – where have you been my friend! Yes, quit the day job back in September and made a big announcement about it on my blog, Twitter and Facebook on August 15th, you can read it here: http://morganlinton.com/a-dream-come-true-leaving-my-day-job-to-pursue-our-passion/

My wife and I are now working full time building our startup Fashion Metric. Linton Investments is still running strong and Domaining now represents our one and only income source!

    Morgan,
Congrats! The ICA is ultra-important to our industry. I’m thrilled to hear you joined 🙂
I had the good fortune to speak with Phil Corwin at the ICA. It’s remarkable what they do to advocate for the domain industry’s rights and support domainers like you and me.
