If I started a newsletter about domain name investing on Substack, would you subscribe?

I’ve seen more and more content creators starting premium/paid newsletters on Substack. My current favorite is A Ticker A Day from Danielle Morrill which I think has been particularly interesting given everything that’s happening in the stock market. There are also a ton of Substacks obviously covering things like news, politics, climate change, etc.

That being said, there’s no Substack about domain investing. Of course, no surprises here – the domain investing industry is small as we all know and most people don’t even know that domain investing is a thing, they just think we’re all squatters.

I feel like there’s an opportunity to both help people discover domain investing and also help us move forward in shaking the negative stigma that surrounds domain investors. My idea is not to put together anything that constitutes a course about how to invest in domains, as I’ve said many times before, I think Mike Cyger has hit it out of the park with DNAcademy and that’s what I recommend to anyone who wants to learn the basics.

Instead, I want to put together a more broad-based weekly publication about domain investing, covered it in a way that makes it accessible to normal people, not just us geeks who have been buying and selling domains for years. Here’s what I’m thinking of for the format:

  • Summary of the week’s domain investing news headlines
  • Sales data for the last week
    • Break down by top TLDs
    • Share any trends coming from the data
    • Highlight any areas that might be heating up or cooling down
  • Inside-the-deal section that does a deeper dive into specific domain sales and how they came together
  • Tools and techniques – helpful tips and tricks for better managing, optimization, and selling domains
  • Weekly sales exclusives – everyone who subscribes can list one domain a week at or below $1,000, price is good for one week only, no commission owed on the sale

Something like this would definitely take me a LOT more time than it does to write a blog post, but would allow me to explore going deeper and really putting out something comprehensive every week. I do find I have a lot of good writing time on the weekend, and I love writing and would love to write more so this could be a good way to do it.

For existing domain investors I could see this being a valuable way to stay on top of trends, sales data, new tools, and maybe sell a domain or two. For new domain investors or people who are curious about what domain investing is, my Substack could help them get a nice data dump once a week that could compliment the other things they’re doing to get started.

Also, since it’s a paid publication, I can offer the opportunity for people to sell domains to each other commission free. My thinking here is, hopefully you like the content enough that it’s worth the price of admission just for that.

I’m thinking $8/month which comes out to $2/week. This would be the first Substack on domain investing and I think it could be interesting to a broad group of people both in and outside of the industry. What do you think? Would you pay $8/month for it? What do you think of the format? Would you add or remove any sections?

You know the drill, I want to hear from you – comment and let your voice be heard!
