Intercom.io Raises $6M To Help Companies Communicate More Personally With Customers

It’s no secret that startups love .IO domains. My post yesterday about FilePicker.io raising $1.8M has been one of my most-read posts all year with the CEO joining in the comment stream! Now today Intercom.io announced a $6M series A round for their platform which helps companies connect with their customers in a very cool and personalized way.

CEO Eoghan McCabe told Techcrunch:

“It became kind of clear to me that on the web, you don’t really have those relationships,” he said, aside from “a few little outliers like Zappos who have invested heavily in great service.” (source – TechCrunch)

The new round of funding was made possible by The Social + Capital Partnership, a VC firm founded by former Facebook VP Chamath Palihapitiya. Of course the million dollar question that I know is going through your head right now is, will they make a bid for Intercom.com which is currently  owned by a broadband provided started in 1993.

Just another example of why you don’t need a one-word .COM to build a great company and raise millions of dollars. At the end of the day a great startup is all about team and execution. Now that being said, I’m sure they want the .COM, and I do think it would be worth it for them to get it, but I can tell you they’ll be fine either way.
