Interview with Ray Neu at TRAFFIC Vancouver 2010

I met Ray for the first time at TRAFFIC Las Vegas and had a great time getting to know him. For those who don’t know, Ray is Howard Neu’s son, a Domainer himself, and heavily involved with the TRAFFIC conferences. If you’re going to TRAFFIC Dublin or planning on attending any TRAFFIC conference Ray is a good guy to know and someone you’ll definitely see at the show.

Ray has a lot of great insight to share on the industry, how it has changed over time, and where we are going! I would like to thank Ray for taking the time to speak with me and always making me feel so at home at TRAFFIC. Enjoy the interview!

Another excellent interview Morgan. Good info and a great reminder that these are Businesses we are investing in. Or at least should be. It’s not the niche, it’s what you make of it.

Nice interview Morgan. Ray has one of the most unique backgrounds in the domain business having literally grown up in it from the time he was in high school. I have had the pleasure of being around him since the first Traffic conference in 2004 and watching him grow into the rapidly rising online entrepreneur that he is today. Ray is like a sponge – always listening and applying what he has learned (and he has had the good fortune to be able to listen and learn from the most successful people in the history of the industry. It’s a privilege he never took lightly and an opportunity he was smart enough not to waste.

On a personal level, he is just a great guy – certainly one of my favorite people in teh entire industry. He has made many friends for the Traffic conference with his outgoing personality and willingness to go out of his way to make sure that every attendee feels welcome and at home at their shows. I’m sure he got a lot of that form his mom and dad, but again that shows what a good listener he is. I wish I had had the wisdom to that when I was his age!

Ray is a class act, and has been one of my favorite domainers and good friends ever since I met him at a TRAFFIC show in 2007. I wish I had more friends like him!

Ray has, by far, given the best advice for newbies entering the domain industry.

Morgan, Thanks for a great interview with Ray. It was interesting to me hearing his feelings about growing up with domaining. It was also a pleasure meeting you in Las Vegas at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Show at the Hard Rock Hotel.

    This made my day 🙂

hrmm, I resent that underwear remark cause I am sitting in my home listening to this interview in my boxers which falls in the under garments family…and at times have “domained” in it as well :-p

I bet Ray does not yet realize the future of aviation will parallel that of land transportation i.e alternative energy driven. Here is an excerpt of the thinking on the subject: ”

The Economist: When an airliner takes off for a transatlantic flight it needs to carry some 80 tonnes of fuel, which accounts for around one-fifth of its weight. On really long flights, fuel can account for 40% of a plane’s take-off weight, so that around 20% of the fuel is used to carry the rest of the fuel. Each tonne of fuel burned also produces 3.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Yet inside a hanger at a Swiss airfield is the prototype of an aircraft that does not use any fuel at all. The wings of this aircraft are almost as big as those of an airliner, but they are covered in a film of solar cells that convert sunlight into electricity to drive its engines.”….
People looking for info about zero-emissions plane online may have a destination: and Ray could be the one….

I am so proud to call Ray my friend. He is bright, inquisitive, honest, hard-working, and extremely interesting to be with. His enthusiasm for domaining is contagious. He is also one of the few people that has taken his passion for flying and has coupled it with
The business of domains and websites. His presence at the TRAFFIC conferences is always a treat, as he is so “welcoming to All” Morgan, I think you have just interviewed the Nicest Guy in the whole world. What is really exciting is that Ray is still young, and it will be interesting to see where he goes with this domain business ten years from now. Great Interview
