Is Your MiniSite Dead?

This post is going to be short and sweet. Let me ask you a simple question – when was the last time you put fresh content on your MiniSite? If your answer is “when it was created” then don’t be surprised if your site isn’t making any money.

The “if you build it they will come” philosophy is only true if they actually find it! Simply releasing a five-page MiniSite into the wild isn’t really enough to get your site noticed – especially if you are in a saturated niche.

So how often do you need to update content? As often as possible – if it’s just once a month that’s fine – but actually do it! The more crowded your niche is the more work you’ll have to do to work your way up in the search engines. Also remember that you need to have content that is optimized for search engines – which means you simply need to hop-onto the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and find the most popular keywords within your niche and use these in your text.

On top of having keyword-rich content you should be adding content that is new or interesting to your target visitor. If someone comes to your site and reads something interesting and then comes back two weeks later and finds more interesting content, there is a good chance they’ll be back again. If a visitor comes back to your website after a period of time and finds nothing has changed there is a good chance you’ll never see that visitor again.

So this is a wake-up call to all the new Domainers out there wondering why they aren’t getting rich off their MiniSites. You need fresh, search engine optimized content and most importantly you need to be patient. I have had some sites that make over $300 in their first months and others that take 6-8 months to generate their first dollar. One thing is clear to me though – you get-out what you put in so get some fresh content on your sites – now!
