Last Night Of TRAFFIC 2012, Going Out With A Bang!

Tonight is the last night of TRAFFIC and even though I’ve been here since Thursday it still feels like I’ve only been here a day. My schedule has been packed with meetings so I haven’t had much time to blog but with so many awesome people in town at the same time I put my focus into enjoying time with every I can. This morning Ron Jackson kicked things off with one of my favorite parts of any conference the State Of The Industry.

Ron shared some great data and some excellent insight into sales trends in the domain space. This is something that is relevant to all Domainers and getting the opportunity to hear it first and in-person is priceless. Next Frank Schilling debuted the brand new DomainNameSales App:

The new app makes it easy to respond to offers directly from your iPhone and I actually used it during the talk to respond to an offer I received on a domain this morning through the platform. The experience was seamless with the desktop interface only nice and easy to use on my iPhone.

Next up were the annual TRAFFIC Awards which went to some absolutely incredible people! The full results can be found on DNJournal, this was my first time seeing the awards in person and I was honored to be nominated for a few of them. There is a great sense of community at TRAFFIC and the awards ceremony brought this out even more!

At noon I was on a panel about Domain Monetization with Braden Pollock, Michael Gilmour, and Chad Folkening moderated by Howard Neu.

This was a great panel for people looking at ways to monetize their portfolio and Howard asked some great questions and generated a solid dialog about topics impacting many Domainers right now. It was an honor to be on the panel and I had a great time!

Tonight is the last cocktail party which will be followed by what I can only say will be a night to remember at GGG’s suite. As usual all the fun nightlife adventures don’t make it to the blog and never will, you have to be here to experience the good stuff! Tomorrow we have the day in Florida and plan to get a boat and head out into the Ocean for yet another adventure, of course I’ll take all of you along for the ride.

If you have any questions about the show, comments, or just want to say hi feel free as always to comment below!

    Welcome Back Morgan,
I always look forward your insight into the business and would appreciate it if you could share a few things about TRAFFIC you thought needed improvement or were not up to your exceptions? Please don’t take offense to this, but all your posts about the event have the smell of being “sponsored” by the organizers (not to they actually are!) . Nothing wrong with being super optimistic and rah-rah, but a more balanced viewpoint might serve your readers more.

Although the hammer fell just a few days ago, was there any talk at Traffic of the Google EMD slap? I guess the magnitude of this algo shift has not hit the domainers who were partying in the beach cabanas, but life as we know (knew) it for the domains business has never seen anything as severe as whats coming down the pike in the next few days and weeks. We are going to see wholesale portfolio liquidations on the level if at least 75% less than today. I have been in the e-commerce business since 1995, and have never seen anything as severe as what came down last week on HUNDREDS of quality 50+ page, 5+ year old developed sites with an EMD that got most of there traffic from the search keyword matching their Exact Match Domains,

Please keep up the good work. You are a huge asset to this small web of domain developers and investors.

    C

I was there for only 2 days but as you pointed out, just flew by.

TRAFFIC is still a great show and I am happy that it will be held twice next year.
