Learn WordPress – One Quick Way To Improve WordPress Security

There are a million different tutorials out there about ways to secure WordPress. While I also recommend a complete regime of security features, there is one quick way you can dramatically improve the security of your WordPress site right-away. You see, many attackers find vulnerable WordPress sites by doing simple Google searches for things like “Powered by WordPress” to quickly identify WordPress sites. Once they find your site, they may try logging-in over and over or could potentially use a known exploit to hack your blog.

Well one of the easiest ways to secure your WordPress site is to remove any text indicating that your blog is running on WordPress. Once you do this then install the plugin Bad Behavior. This plugin will not only prevent attackers from trying a million different login/password combinations to access your site, it also shows you how many people are attempting to login.

You might be surprised to see how many people are trying to hack your site, Bad Behavior can be a real eye-opener. So if you’re running one, two, or ten WordPress sites, take the time to make this small change and enjoy a safer site. Oh and if you want to go a step further you can read my tutorial – 3 Ways to Secure Your WordPress Blog.
