Morning Or Night? When do you get the most work done?

It’s 12:56AM and yes, I’m finally writing my blog post for today. I’m used to things slowing down around the holidays but with Fashion Metric things are only getting busier, literally by the day and customers rush to get orders in by Christmas. It is incredibly exciting, but it also means that we’re often working 16 hour days to make it all happen.

So that makes this officially my latest post of the year which I thought really did deserve a post of its own. It got me thinking a bit about the difference between morning people and night people. Now I find myself a bit of both but lately I’ve been becoming more of a morning person, here are the trade-offs that I see:

Night Person

Pros: No interruptions, far less emails coming in, very little time pressure since you can always stay-up later.

Cons: You get progressively more tired as time goes on, if you’ve had a busy day you might be mentally drained, it’s dark so I can’t work outside (which I love doing)

Morning Person

Pros: You feel fresh, it’s a bit like you’ve just hit the reset button. I love working outside and the morning have a certain calming mystical feel to them. You can send emails and get responses in real time rather than waiting until the morning.

Cons: If you didn’t get enough sleep you might just spend your morning in slow motion. As time goes by more and more emails start coming in distracting you from what you’re doing. Afternoon meetings come quickly so you’re always under some kind of time pressure.

I used to be an 100% night person, now as I get older I’m finding I’ve become more of a morning person, 1AM now honestly does feel late to me. So which are you, a morning or a night person and why?
