My 2010 New Year's Resolutions

It is the second day of 2010 and after spending January 1st planning my entire year I thought now would be a good time to reflect on my resolutions for 2010. In 2009 my life changed dramatically as my business took-off in more ways than I could have imagined. Keeping that steep growth is going to be a challenge in 2010 but I have some pretty exciting projects that I am certain will make this year a defining moment in my life! Sounds dramatic? It should be – I have some big plans for 2010!

There are three main resolutions I have that are the key to my success in 2010 – many of these of course came from lessons I learned in 2009. (Note: My first resolution matches Elliot’s – this was not intentional but should represent a growing trend)

  1. Grow Affiliate Marketing Knowledge – PPC took a nosedive in 2009 and the domain monetization world will never be the same again as a result. After attending the Affiliate Convention in Los Angeles I am confident that Affiliate Marketing will not only fill the gap but create incredible revenue potential. While I’ve been doing affiliate marketing for a few years now I would still call myself a novice – this year I want to learn all that I can to ensure I can get the most revenue out of my domains.
  2. Focus – 2009 was a great year but also too jam-packed with projects. I need to get better at doing more with less. In my 2010 planning I am carefully picking-out what I really need to focus on to be successful in 2010 – you can’t do it all and the secret to success is definitely focus!
  3. Become more involved in the Domaining Industry – While I do own a domain investment company, and write a blog about Domaining I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been slow to make connections within the industry. Most of my lack of involvement stems from having a full-time job that is very time consuming (but that I absolutely love!). In 2010 I am going to make sure I attend conferences and meet as many other Domainers as possible – I take my business seriously and even with a full-time job I have managed to be successful in this space. While I will never be able to spend as much time as those of us who spend 100% of their time on Domaining I still plan to become a significantly more active participant in the Domaining world.

I kept it to three this year because one of my resolutions is FOCUS! Yesterday I spent the entire day planning 2010 and over the next few days I’ll share some of the planning process with all of you. Please feel free to write comments with your own New Year’s Resolutions! Now is the time to take a step back and look at what you did well in 2009 and what you missed-out on or could have done better. Self-analysis is the key to improving over time so remember, make mistakes and learn from them!
