My first impressions of Ello

You’ve heard of Ello right? It’s a startup with a similar founding story to Craiglist, a cool product that friends were using to stay connected that got so popular before they knew it everyone wanted in. Unlike Craigslist Ello went the funding route which means they are able to grow faster than they would organically, and given the team and investors behind it, it’s clear Ello is going places.

So what is Ello?

Ello is like Facebook without the ads and without much UI/UX, which is another reason I liken it to Craiglist, the focus is simplicity. Here’s what my Ello home screen looks like right now:

Those little circular icons on the left are my friends, the smiley face in the top right is the menu and on the right is my most recent Ello post (yes, that’s the Fashion Metric team) and to post something new I just click where it says “Say Ello”

As an active Facebook user I found Ello very easy to get started with and I do find it very zen to use a Facebook-like system without the clutter. Right now only a small fraction of my Facebook friends are on it so I think it will definitely get a lot more fun once more people start using it.

I plan to post on Ello at least daily and am still trying to come-up with a consistent theme so that I’m more focused than I am on Facebook. Oh, and it looks like I have a bunch of invites so if you’d like to try Ello just comment below and I’m happy to send one your way.

If you’re on Ello make sure to add me as a friend and feel free to share how you like it so far below.
