My Morning Walk in Hong Kong

I arrived at my hotel in Hong Kong at just about 7AM and after taking care of some emails and phone calls did one of my favorite things to do in a foreign country – explore!

Since this is my fourth time to Hong Kong I have a general idea of the different parts of town and how to get from one to the other. Let me just emphasize here that when I say “Basic” that’s what I mean – I’m far from being a certified tour guide!

My hotel is in an area called Lan Kwai Fong which is home to some of the best bars, clubs, and restaurants largely geared towards the ex-pat community.

I decided to make my first stop somewhere I hadn’t been before – the Man Mo Temple – a beautiful temple located just a few blocks from my hotel. The temple was built about 100 years ago and is still actively used today. Pictures and videos can’t do justice as the strong smell of incense that hits you when you walk in really is part of the experience.

Inside a giant shrine sits at the front and large pots filled with incense surround the room creating a smokey mist through the inside of the temple.

After the temple I decided to do what I do best – Get Lost! Traveling is in my blood and I like nothing more when I enter a new city than to wander aimlessly until I’m completely lost…and then of course find my way back! So that’s exactly what I did.

I started my adventure by heading down to the Hong Kong Harbor and into the hustle and bustle of the Monday morning commute!

I walked FAR from my hotel and my attempt to get back started to seem impossible. Before I knew it I was seriously lost in Hong Kong…of course that was my goal so I couldn’t have been happier!

Soon I found myself standing in a street with carts all around me selling vegetables, fish, and fresh meat. I shot a great video that I’ll share with you once I have an Internet connection that can support the upload.

At this market you could buy just about anything from live fish, crab, etc. to Eel or even animal tails which I saw hanging from the door of one place!

The funny thing is – when I was at the fish market I assumed I had reached the peak of being lost…then much to my surprise I turned the corner and there was my hotel!

Travel is a great adventure and if you don’t take the time to get lost – who knows what you might miss!

Okay well now I’ve changed-into jogging pants and I’m going to take a quick jog and then hit the gym. Since exercise is an important part of my regular daily life I make sure it also gets prime focus when I travel.

If you are reading this and you live in Hong Kong – look out your window – I might be jogging by right now!
