Okay, I’m too excited not to share – I’m doubling down on ccTLDs this year

Hey everyone, I’ve been keeping a secret and well, it’s time to share. Well actually, it’s probably not time to share, it’s actually way too early, but that’s never stopped me so let’s discuss.

As many of you know I have been .COM focused for years, and just to clarify before I go any further, I still expect .COMs to be my focus for the foreseeable future.

All that being said, my split between .COM and non .COMs has been 90/10 and maybe now closer to 80/20, and in 2021 I’m moving closer to 60/40, yes – I’m doubling down on non .COMs, more specifically, I’m doubling down on ccTLDs and in more ways than just buying domains.

First, why ccTLDs, and which ccTLDs? While I love .COM and like I said above, 60% of my investments will continue to be .COM, it’s hard to ignore what’s happening in the ccTLD space and for me, the traction I’ve seen with .IO are just too awesome to ignore. Couple that with people I really look up to like Nikul who have built a great business on .CO (read more here) and it’s time to diversify, more.

If you think you can only make money in this business on .COMs, uh, keeping thinking that, yeah, and don’t buy anything else, less competition is good 😎  But here’s some stats from Nikul who made $141,000 in 2020 and sold zero (yes zero) .COM domain names:

While I’m focusing on Nikul here there are a lot of other people doing great in the ccTLD space, I just really like Nikul because he’s a beast when it comes to keeping track of and sharing data, and a damn nice guy.

As for the ccTLDs I’m focusing on, there are just two on my list: .IO and .CO. While I’ll continue to dabble in .GG and .VC and a few others, .IO and .CO are my jam and I’m going to ramp up my investment in these two TLDs this year.

Now for the secret I’ve been keeping…I’m starting a sister blog to MorganLinton.com on a domain name I’ve had for a long time and waited for the right time to launch. The domain is ccTLDInvesting.com, which, well, seems like the right place to put a blog about ccTLDInvesting.

To start, ccTLDInvesting.com will not be a daily blog. Instead, it’s going to be a weekend blog, that’s a thing right? 🤷‍♂️  The reality is, I can’t add more to my plate during the weekdays, but on the weekend, I honestly don’t have much going on outside of awesome bike rides across the Golden Gate Bridge or hikes on Mt Tam, but I certainly have time to write on the weekends.

What you’ll find now is a bare bones blog, but I’m building on Ghost this time rather than WordPress. I’m currently working on the logo through Logo.com which is the slickest solution for making logos I’ve ever seen and I highly recommend to anyone that needs a logo for their site.

On ccTLDInvesting.com I’ll be sharing news and updates on ccTLD domain sales and trends, and I’ll be continuing to expand the content based on what it looks like readers are interested in. Of course you can still expect daily posts here on MorganLinton.com Monday through Friday and my weekly Substack which you should subscribe to if you haven’t yet.

Okay, that’s it for now, there’s two posts up on ccTLDInvesting.com now but they’re pretty boring so you probably shouldn’t waste your time. More to come. As always thanks for reading, now let’s shake things up a bit in 2021!
