One Thing I Really Need To Improve

Okay, well there are a lot more than one thing that I need to improve on but this one popped into my head this morning so I thought as per usual I’d share it with all of you. The last five years I’ve seen my time get completely maxed out as I worked hard to juggle my Domaining business, full time job, and startup adventures. I quickly learned that doing too many things at once can mean not doing any one of those things as well as I would like.

With my domain business the only way to scale was to hire more people and really built it as a business rather than a job form myself. This helped me take something that was making a few thousand dollars a month and turn it into a real six-figure business. I couldn’t manufacture time so I did what I think most people should do in that situation, pay for other people’s time.

This year my domain business grew more than I could have expected and Daina came up with an amazing idea and started a company that I soon joined and quit my day job to pursue full time. In reflecting on my year I’m proud of a lot of things but also disappointed in a few things that fell off of my plate as I suddenly found myself doing one too many things.

That one thing I really felt that I needed to improve on is responding to blog comments. While I have kept up with my blog and in fact seen the traffic continue to grow year over year I haven’t had enough time to properly respond to comments and follow-up with my readers. So now I am making a pledge to all of you that your comments will not go unread all day only to be responded to late at night or the following day.

Now that I have left Sonos this has given me an extra 8-10 hours a day and that means I can finally give my comments all the love that they deserve. On that note I am also adding a top commentators section to my sidebar to reward those who comment frequently. For those who already comment a ton and have wished that I responded to comments quicker, or at all in some cases, I look forward to more dialog and interactivity as I move forward with this next chapter in my life.

I look at blogs like Elliot’s (one of my all time favorite blogs out there) and see how quickly he responds to comments and what a great service this is to his user and his blog as a whole. He has set a great example and I look forward to making my blog more responsive and interactive. Many more things to improve on, but I’ll start with this!
