Great domain names expire all the time, sometimes they sell for big bucks. While the expired domain market in the .COM world sees a lot of bidding activity, the .IO space is often less busy, although that has been changing over the last year or two.
.IO domain names have become very popular in the startup world, especially for companies that see developers as their target market. I was surprised to see the previous owner of Programming.io decided not to renew but they didn’t and now the domain is in auction at Park.io.
With a current price of $898 with almost a week to go, it’s clear this domain is going to sell for a pretty penny. Park.io’s appraisal service gave it a $18,677 valuation and if I were to guess I think we’ll end up seeing it sell for somewhere in the $6,000 – $8,000 range.
Programmers.io is currently a developed site focused on helping companies hire software developers and they have a pretty impressive customer list. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re one of the people bidding in this auction. This will definitely be an interesting one to watch!
