Recent Domain Purchases

from the blog www.stuckincustoms.comOne of my favorite things that Elliot does on his blog is share some of his recent domain purchases. As a Domain Investor I think it’s always interesting to see what other investors are buying. Since I’ve been buying a lot this year I thought I’d share some of my recent purchases. Some of these were purchased for development, some as flips, and others as long-term holds.

If you want to understand my strategy behind each make sure to subscribe to my newsletter as I’ll be covering this in my Christmas Special! Most of the domains that I have purchased over the past few months have been found using Protrada.

This month I have sold a total of five domains, three of which were purchased within the last 4-6 weeks! Of the names I sold every single one of them was a .COM. In many cases now if I buy a domain for resale (vs. development) I already have a particular buyer or buyers in mind. I will be covering how I research potential buyers in my Christmas Newsletter!

Feel free to share your own purchases below or comment on any of mine! Comment and let your voice be heard!

From a newbie perspective your recent buys seem weak compare to Elliot’s or my imaginary buy list if I were seriously prospecting buyers. I imagine they are aged. So I did a quick check on google search volume. They are very low except for “on the bus”. I don’t think I’d make a good domainer because I have a hard time choosing a parking space when there are a lot available. I imagine there are a lot of those quality level of names you purchase.

Interesting disclosures Morgan, particularly like and I love the transparency that guys like you and Elliot are promoting with these posts.

My most recent acquisitions include – A popular tourism tagline – Hyphenated unfortunately but I was attracted by the keywords

    What do you think?

  • Morgan December 22, 2011, 1:39 pm

@PoorUncle – I’m pretty sure Elliot and I buy in different price ranges, everything on this list was purchased for under $1,000/domain. That being said I didn’t buy any of these without research, connecting with potential buyers, etc. so if you read my newsletter tomorrow you’ll understand the reason behind each purchase!

@Leon – thanks, always happy to be transparent, I like the idea of us all going through this together! has a nice ring to it and I love Social Coupons, would love it more without the dash ๐Ÿ™‚

Seeing what people are buying is very interesting. I think it’s great that you, Elliot and Shane are sharing a few of your domain acquisitions.

I’ve bought a small number of domains recently and a recent sale will cover a few more acquisitions. I’m not buying a lot any more, trying to trim down my portfolio.

Seeing as everyone is sharing their latest buys, the last one I got was I’ll be launching the site late Jan 2012.

  • Uzoma December 22, 2011, 3:34 pm

    Oh I see.

Well, everybody lost out on great names I published with that post. ๐Ÿ™‚

I will only list one now, which I purchased a couple of days ago and I am developing it now. It’s a dot com and I invite everyone to visit and register and post, like I do for everybody’s blog or website. Nobody reciprocates for me ๐Ÿ™

it is (both go to same site):

    AvoidHassle (.) com
    Rechart (.) com

The weekly DNJ reports are loaded with .COM sales and I’ll admit .COM is easier to sell than other TLDs. But I really dislike having to resort to three-word .COM acquisitions when there are much better keywords available in other extensions. Unless you have a domain with significant type-in traffic, then domains are merely about branding. An exact match .COM is going to be preferred over the equivalent domain in another extension IF it is available for a backorder. But the reality is generally the only way to acquire a decent .COM is to get into bidding wars or lowball other domainers. If you have been able to mass mail hundreds of potential end users for three-word .COMs and find it generates a reasonable ROI on your time, keep doing it. Otherwise, I believe you can find better domains than the ones listed above. I recently recommended to a client that they purse a domain which is NOT a .COM (not one of my own domains either). They agreed it would be a good acquisition and wanted more info on how to acquire it.

    Enjoyed the short post.

Here are a few domain names I have hand registered in the last few months. I plan on experimenting with mini-sites.

    Happy Holidays! -Mars
