Reflections on 29 Years 364 Days of Life

That’s right – this is the very last day I can say “I’m in my 20’s” and boy does time fly when you’re having fun! It’s been an amazing 29 years and looking back I honestly can’t say I would have done it any differently. I’ve worked hard, traveled the world, met the love of my life, and made some incredible life-long friends. A lot has been going through my mind today and I thought who better to share it with than all of you!

So here are my reflections on the first 29 years 364 days of my life:

  • Love – this is #1 for me and I feel blessed every single day of my life that I met Daina. We have an amazing life together and love each other exactly the way we are. Of course we know that we’ll each change in our own special ways during life and we are ready for. Daina is my the love of my life, my soul-mate, and my best friend and if there is one thing that I am the most thankful for in these 29 years it’s her!
  • Passion – for me this came at the age of five when I proclaimed, “I want to be a veterinarian” and began looking at Veterinary colleges. Okay, so that’s not quite what I turned-out to be passionate about! When I was 11 I got my first computer and by the age of 13 I had started a web design company. Even though Netscape hadn’t even created the first version of Netscape Navigator I knew that the Internet would be my passion, it has been and always will be!
  • Friends – I have made some amazing friends in life, from High School, to College, to my time at IBM and of course within the Domaining industry I’ve met some truly amazing people that I am proud to call my friends. I appreciate every one of my friends and all the unique and incredible things they bring to this world and the amazing experiences we’ve had together. I’ve always put love, friends, and family first and always will – these three things will be with you your entire life!
  • Travel – when I was a kid, about the same time that I declared that I would be a Veterinarian, I also told my parents that I would be moving to Africa. While I never moved to Africa my love for travel has been strong and I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the globe for over six-years now. I’ve had some adventures that I can barley believe and I can’t wait for more!
  • Business – if you know me then you know I work a lot. I love what I do and know what I’m capable of, I put my heart and soul into everything that I do and keep an open mind so that I’m learning every step of the way. If there is one thing I’ve learned about business in the last 29 years it’s that if you want to succeed you have to fail first (or maybe even a few times), pick yourself up, dust yourself of, and go forth and conquer. I used to be afraid of failure, now I welcome it with open arms, I’ve had enough success to know what I can do and if I can learn from a mistake it only makes me stronger.
  • Life – after all this what have I learned about life? Life is short, it moves quickly, there is not time to sit back and watch it go by. Be an active participant, dare to dream big, change the world, you can do it! When people ask me what I want to do in life I tell them I want to start a global company that changes the world. Sometimes I get a chuckle from people after I say that, my response is, life is short, don’t just dream big – go big!

Finally, to end the whole list I have one more thing that is so important I had to mention it on its own in the end. Never let the kid inside you die. Don’t become jaded by life or your experiences, remember that there is always that little kid that was amazed by all the wonders of the world, that kid that asked a million questions, that kid that believed anything was possible. The kid inside me is still alive and kicking (some might say even a little too much!) and I’m proud of the man that kid has become.
