SEO Sunday: Will Facebook Beat Google In The Search Game?

Facebook announced its Open Graph and quickly the bloggosphere was buzzing with talks of Google’s demise. As Domainers this could be one of the biggest moves to shape our industry in the last five years. The big question is – will Facebook give Google a run for their money?

SEOMoz did a great video on Friday covering this topic and for any Domainers that are interested in search I’d file this in the must-watch category. In this video you’ll learn exactly what this means for the search community – in future posts I’ll let you know how I think Domainers can leverage this change – but for now – enjoy the video!

I doubt it. Facebook is just too difficult to navigate, the page too busy and too meandering. I can’t even remember my own Facebook url, so I redirected two of my domains to it.

Something will eventually bypass Google, but it won’t be something like Facebook. It will have to be something very spectacular because Google is just too darn easy to use.

I seriously doubt it. Clients of mine who for years let their employees run wild on the web have had me block Facebook from their networks recently. IMO Google is a tool, Facebook is a toy.

Not to mention Facebook runs like it was held together with digital duct-tape. I rarely even log on anymore.

Facebook, not even close. Ppl. at Facebook can dream, can have visions, but nah. First and foremost, Facebook, violates the first principle of UI –“Don’t make me think!”.

Excellent points from everyone – keep the comments coming! This is definitely going to be an important issue for all of us as Domainers!

  • Jim Holleran May 2, 2010, 7:28 pm has a chance to overtake Google within 5 years. That is Worldwide. Nothing else, I see on the horizon.

    Thanks, Jim

I dont think but you never know, after the search engine the most time people spend online is social networking.. That`s just insane.

    Ive been using .
It uses a better method than blocking social media sites because it only monitors sites like Facebook during production hours. People/Employees still have the option to use it for a breather or during breaks really . Sometimes they use it for work too in helping reach decisions.

@Scott “Google is a tool, Facebook is a toy” haha nice one, and true. I don’t see how they really compete with each other, they are both beneficial in different ways.
