Server Problems

I wanted to write a quick note to thank everyone for their patience with the recent server problems my blog has been having at our hosting provider ZippyKid. I decided to move my blog to ZippyKid as my traffic had dramatically increased and I also wanted to take the server management off of my plate. Overall I’ve been very happy with ZippyKid but they are a startup which means you can expect some bumps in the road.

Unfortunately since I moved to ZippyKid my blog has seen more downtime than ever before, however when it is up and running, it is lightning fast. To their credit ZippyKid has always been very quick to fix things but downtime is downtime.

Last month my blog was moved to a new server at ZippyKid however has been down three separate times since the move and today has been the worst I’ve seen so far. I have received a number of emails about my blog either not resolving at all or loading slowly. I wanted to let all of you know that I am aware of this as is ZippyKid and they’ve been working hard today to get everything back up to status quo.

I know some people would throw in the towel at this point but I have to say it is the awesome people in ZippyKid’s tech support and Vid Luther, the founder that is keeping me at ZippyKid despite these issues. Support is always incredibly fast at getting back to me, and yes, I do know all the support guys now 🙂 Good things come to those who wait and while I think I may be a bit early with this service I’m willing to deal with these issues in return for what I think will be something truly incredibly over the coming years.

I no longer have to manage anything myself, from plugin upgrades to security patches ZippyKid is on it and when they get all this server mumbo jumbo figured-out I know my blog will be back to being as fast as its ever been. Still, these things impact more than just me, they impact you and I wanted to let you all know what happened since I did get a number of emails, FB messages, and Skype’s and I thought summing it up in a blog post probably made the most sense.

I still recommend ZippyKid and think that being patient early-on will mean many years of hassle-free hosting where everything is managed for me. Customer service is king and I can tell you that between Robert, Kai, and Vid I feel very well taken care of. Real people handling all my requests, we’re all on the first-name basis, and they even called me this Saturday just to make sure a request was taken care of to my satisfaction. As long as this stays in place I’ll be a customer for a very long time.
