Slow Motion Monday (Post written on an iPhone)

I woke-up this morning to find that my Internet connection was down. For most people this might not be the end of the world…but for me it really is. My day job is fast paced and full of emails and conference calls and my mornings and evenings are dedicated to Domaining.

So I did what most people would do and called Time Warner. They had no explanation and said that my modem or the line had just died and would need to be replaced. I told them that since I work from home the Internet is crucial…they said they could have someone at my house on Wednesday!

I picked-up the phone and called Verizon, they could have a modem to me tomorrow ready to go. I called Time Warner back and told them if they wanted to keep my business they’d have to fix it sooner, instead they admitted defeat and I can now proudly say I have dispensed with “the cable company.”

Of course without Internet I had to rely on 3G all day – in fact I’m writing this post on my iPhone! Spending an entire day on 3G really accentuates what a differece high speed Internet makes – oh and I do miss my computers!

I think it was this weekend that I was talking with my friends and saying how you can do everything from an iPhone…while you can I can tell you it’s a lot like working in slow motion. This is why I’ve dubbed today slow motion Monday.

Now some people might be bent out of shape, yell at the Time Warner people, spend the day frustrated. As you all know I’m a major optimist and I believe strongly in treating everyone with respect.

I was courteous and nice to the Time Warner attendant who helped me cancel my account – heck she has nothing to do with my problem ! As for working in slow motion – it was actually refreshing, sure I didn’t get as much done, but I focused a lot more on heat I was doing.

I’m about half-way done with writing the third edition of my book and got a good four hours of writing in before and after work. Tonight there will be no Netflix, no Hulu Plus, no Pandora piping throug our Multi-room music system as we make dinner. Tonight we are watching a DVD – remember those physical disks?

What I realized is that this was one of the least stressful Monday’s I’ve had all year – hey maybe I’ll make it a regular thing! When life gives you lemons you have to make lemonade – I would recommend each of you to give slow Motion Monday a try, you might be surprised how relaxing much less stressful a Monday can be!

(no proof reading this post – heck I wrote the whole thing on my iPhone!)
