So, I seem to have found a bug in my WordPress install

blog comments

Something funky is happening with my blog comment moderation settings in WordPress and it causes people who have commented for years to get held for moderation. I’m not quite sure when this changed but it happened with a WordPress update sometime over the last year. Here are my current comment settings:

Unless I’m missing something this looks like a bug because with both of these boxes unchecked…comments shouldn’t be moderated, ever…right? One of my long-time readers who goes by the name Snoopy pointed this out to me, in a comment…that got held for moderation, which is ridiculous because he’s been commenting on my blog for a LONG time.

As those who comment on my blog know, it’s not that comments don’t show up, but a high number of comments need to wait for me to approve them. I login to my blog just about once every 24 hours which means in some cases, people have to wait a full day until their comment appears, which is silly and takes a lot of the conversational elements out of commenting.

So I’m going to spend some time this week getting this fixed and hopefully adding some bells and whistles to my comment system while I’m at it. If you’re a WordPress guru and know what’s going on, please comment below and I promise to approve you 🙂 That being said, I’m still seeing a really nice volume of comments so thanks for everyone who is being patient here! One of my posts last week had 21 comments, and the week before that I had a post with 32 comments so it’s pretty awesome to see people continuing to take the time to share their thoughts and opinions on my blog.

If you’ve been reading my blog for years, you know that I end almost every post with the same thing, “I want to hear from you, comment and let your voice be heard!” So um, yeah – I probably should have my comment system in tip top shape. Stay-tuned and thanks for your patience!
