Some Holiday Reflections From One Domainer To Another

Is it just me or do the holidays make you reflect far more than any other time of the year? I had a few thoughts on my mind and as the house fills with the wonderful smells of Christmas dinner I thought I share some of them with you.

First I would like to say – Thank You. I started this blog in October of 2007 – the same month I started my company. I've always loved teaching and this year I've received countless emails from new domainers thanking me for helping them get started. I've always felt the best way to learn is from watching others so sharing my own experiences has been a great way for me to give-back. The Domaining world is growing everyday and I can still remember when I started reading Sahar's blog which really inspired me to start my blog. We've never met in person or spoken before but I always felt that Sahar was my first teacher and I *highly* recommend his blog to anyone in the domaining world. Of course, I coulnd't reflect on a year of domaining without mentioning Ron Jackson – creator of DNJournal which has become what I consider the epicenter of the domaining universe. Einsein once said that the more he learned about Math, the more he realized he didn't know! I feel the same way about domaining and Ron and Sahar will always be my gurus! I am always learning and think it is so important to always keep an open mind and learn something new every day. Starting my own company has been an incredible adventure and I urge everyone to take the bull by the horns and start something of your own if you haven't already. While I certainly have made my share of mistakes – the lessons I've learned along the way have been infinitely more valuable than I could have ever imagined. At the end of 2008 I can proudly stay that we are still in business and growing! Looking into my crystal ball I know next year will be a challenge. The economy doesn't look to be getting any better and I am already starting to dramatically change how we do business to prepare for the times ahead. Luckily we've always focused on development and in 2009 this will be essential to stay competitive in this industry. Nothing could be more valuable than the experience gained during tough times and I'm ready for the challenge! Finally – one last thought, this one having nothing to do with Domaining. I feel lucky. Not because I have achieved all my life dreams (still no mansion or fancy yacht), but because of the incredible people I have in my life. I think the Holidays should make us all feel lucky just to have the people we have in our life. Businesses come and go, and cars/boats/houses can't love you back. When I sit at the dinner table, surrounded by people I love I can only think – life is good! Never lose sight of how lucky you really are. Life can change in a heartbeat so enjoy every moment you can with family and friends – because in the end that is all that matters.Happy Holidays and thanks to all of my loyal readers who have supported me and helped make this blog what it is today. Warm wishes and I look forward to spending another year together!
