Startup Domain Review – Clypd Just Raised $7.2M…But Is Clypd.com A Good Brand?

News just hit the wire that Clypd.com raised $7.2M to make it easier for advertisers to place short TV ads. In a world where services like Hulu and Crackle are becoming viable competitors to cable broadcast short TV commercials are starting to be the new normal. Now I like the idea and with $7.2M there’s no doubt that Clypd can make some pretty big moves.

Clypd

Here’s my question, why Clypd? Honestly I’m pretty sure it is pronounced “Clipped” but if I were to tell someone there’s a cool new startup called “Clipped” and told them the spelling “c-l-y-p-d” I’d still guess they wouldn’t be able to remember it by the time they got home. Now I’m not saying that the company  needs to buy Clipped.com but there have to be better brandables than Clypd out there.

Once again, I like the idea, and it looks like the company has a stellar team. I’m sure they’ll do great things no matter what but is it just me or is this a tough name for people to spell and remember? I’ve talked before about the billboard test and the radio test and this fails both of them.

What do you think? Is Clypd a brand to grow on or is there a rebranding or domain name upgrade in their future? Comment and let your voice be heard!
