Startup Domains Making News – Stat.com

How many of you use Uber? I have been a big Uber fan since they launched in Los Angeles and use the service whenever I’m in San Francisco and NYC as well. If you don’t know what Uber is, think of it as the app you’ve been dreaming of. Anywhere you are (in cities where available) you open the Uber app, select your location and boom, a few minutes later a towncar is there.

Uber picked a very short and memorable name and all you have to do is search for Uber on the app store or go to Uber.com. Now, there’s a new startup that is making news that is calling themselves the Uber of emergency medical transport and they’re calling it Stat.

Stat

While the service is still in beta the founders still went for it and acquired Stat.com which I think we’ll all agree is a pretty stellar domain. It’s not often that you see a startup get a big name like this while in beta but I think it’s a very smart move.

I’ve said before that you don’t need the exact-match .COM if you have an app, but it only helps you if you have it. When people hear about Stat or Uber, the first place they’ll look is the app store, the next place they’ll look is the website. If the app’s called Stat, the first place they’ll go is Stat.com and they’ll find exactly what they’re looking for.

The domain seems to have changed hands in June of last year but it’s privacy protected so I’m not entirely certain if this startup acquired the domain back then, or if they’re leasing it from the current owner. Either way, if you’re stranded and need to get somewhere then you need Uber, and if pretty soon if you’re stranded and need medical attention, you’ll need Stat.

I think this is a very cool idea and can’t wait to see the team make this a meaningful and lifesaving brand!
