Startup Monday: TechCrunch Disrupt SF Starts Today!

TechCrunch Disrupt kicked-off today in San Francisco after an exciting hackathon that brought-over 400 hackers together for the weekend. The top six teams from the hackathon are given the chance to present at the conference on Wednesday. The six hackathon winner were:

  • PetMatch
  • VCMaps.me
  • Weather Checker
  • Eccube
  • Ex-Rated
  • u4them.org

The Disrupt conference started today with a conversation between Linked In founder (and famous angel investor) Reid Hoffman and Tech Crunch founder Michael Arrington. Mike McCue, the CEO of Flipboard joined Tech Crunch’s Editor-in-Chief Erick Schonfeld to talk about publishing for tablets. As you certainly know, Tablets are one of the hottest trends in the world right now, and Mike McCue is on the cutting-edge of this space. Watch below and you can see Mike and Erick’s fireside chat:

Angry Bird’s creator, Rovio spoke about selling real goods along with their wildly popular app. From t-shirts to plush toys Angry Birds has gone beyond the realms of the virtual world and real money is being made on more than just app sales. Oh, and for all the Facebook Game fans out there…they did hint at making a Facebook game in the near future.

This week Eric Ries will also be launching his new book which is phenomenal, I managed to get a very early edition when I attended the  Startup Lessons Learned conference early this year. Eric is the founder and leader of the Lean Startup Movement and something that has been a major focus of mine this year.

Of course you can watch Tech Crunch live anytime, so if you’re not at the conference, watch or listen and you’ll have direct access to the hottest startup conference of the year!
