Think it's too late to start Domaining? Think again.

I can't tell you how many people have said to me, "I wish I got started in the beginning, I'd be rich by now!" What I try to remind new Domainers is that this is the beginning! I started Domaining in early 2007 and started my company in October of the same year. In just one year I've seen the industry change dramatically, and, I have been fortunate enough to snag a few great domains that have kept my business going strong.

What has always surprised me is how many domains I was able to hand-register in 2007 that turned-out to be gold mines. I started-out in this industry pushing deveopment as that is the key strategy of domain flipping. I was met with harsh criticism from hard-core domain parking addicts that had made their living with generic parked pages. As we entered 2008 it was clear that I was on the right track as parking took a steep nose-dive and more and more attention was placed on development.

Now it's 2009 and once again the emails are coming-in from new domainers asking me if they've missed the boat. My answer is the same as it was back in 2007 – this is only the beginning – if anything, you might be a bit early! This is a brand-new market, one that almost nobody knows about. Mention the word Domaining to ten different people – see how many have heard the term. I've tried this experiment time and time again and found the same results – zero out of ten.

Nobody can give better perspective on Domaining than Rick Schwartz – my hero and one of the kings of the Domaining world. If you don't read Rick's blog – start reading now – he has some great insight into this developing market since he's been in the industry since its inception. His post today continued to inspire me as his posts tend to do and also stresses the point I'm making in my post. So take a minute and have a read and you might just realize that you are part of the beginning of something great. Read Rick's Post Now.
