To Renew or not to Renew, that is the question

Every year I do a sweep of our portfolio and make sure all the domain we have set to renew are really worth it. I can't tell you how many domainers let terrible domains renew year after year hoping that some day they will sell.

I like to compare this to a Vegas gambler. When you go to a casino and lose money, it is all too easy to say; well, maybe if I give it one more shot – I'll hit it big. Then, when you do hit it big, maybe the fifth or sixth time around you forget how much money it took to get there!

When you look at ccTLD's which cost over $20/year to renew the costs can really add up. As a prudent investor it is up to you to give yourself the reality shock – some of the domains you picked are junk. That's right, some of your great ideas for domain names, were not great ideas. There is nothing wrong with this, the hardest thing is to realize it and uncheck the magic "auto-renew" button.

So this year, when you make your new years resolution to save money try to think how many of your domains really represent solid investments. Just like the thousands of Americans who are now cutting-up their credit cards, it might be time for a few domainers to do the same with their digital real estate.

Have a great weekend and as always, Happy Flipping!
