.TOP is the #1 new gTLD when it comes to registrations…but does that make it the least valuable?

In case you haven’t been following along, .XYZ was the most-registered new gTLD for quite a while there until .TOP came and overtook them, now .LOAN is coming close to taking the #2 spot. Here’s the top five new gTLDs based on registrations according to nTLD stats:

As you can see .TOP, .XYZ and .LOAN are getting pretty darn close when it comes to registrations…but all of them are losing registrations vs .CLUB and .WIN who are sitting in the #4 and #5 spot and growing.

For a long time new gTLDs have bragged about registrations but when I look at the numbers here and see .TOP in the #1 spot…I actually think, hmmmm – to me it looks like .TOP is probably the least valuable new gTLD. I’m not seeing .TOP domains everywhere, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever seen one, and they’re losing over 17,000 registrations which means it sure isn’t growing, so it begs the question:

Is the new gTLD with the most registrations the most or least valuable? I’d say it’s the least valuable since it’s clear .TOP is not taking off like a rocket, there are just a bunch of people hoarding the names, not tons of businesses using them.
