Trouble In Paradise? Internet Connectivity Issues Plague ICANN 50

So you would think that a conference run by the folks who run a very important part of the Internet (domain names that is) would be able to provide an Internet connection for their attendees. Well think again, complaints about the lack of Internet has been rampant with Frank Schilling posting this most recently on Twitter:

Now I’m not sure if ICANN or Hilton is to blame but either way it does seem a bit crazy that a conference full of Internet geeks would be having major connectivity issues.

Along with some Internet problems it also sounds like someone was actually asleep and snoring during one of the ICANN meetings…

When it comes to coverage of ICANN 50 I have to thank Kevin Murphy (twitter.com/DomainIncite) for providing what I think it’s safe to say is the best twitter coverage of any ICANN event to-date. It looks like Kevin has found a way around the WiFi thanks to Go Daddy but it took a bit to get it going: (Update – this was unrelated, Kevin is actually staying away from the meeting rooms so isn’t fighting with the ICANN-provided WiFi)

So if you couldn’t make it to ICANN definitely make sure to check-out Kevin’s Twitter feed, and if you’re there, definitely try an alternate wifi solution as it doesn’t look like ICANN has mastered the whole Internet connectivity thing yet…
