Trumped.com from $1,000 purchase to $15,000 sale to developed site

There’s nothing like a good flip, and while in most industries doubling our tripling your money is seen as an out-of-the-park homerun, in Domaining the sky really is the limit. It’s not uncommon to see domains sell for 10x what the owner paid and in the case of Trumped.com serial entrepreneur and domain investor Braden Pollock turned a $1,000 investment into a $15,000 sale.

The new owner didn’t waste any time getting a site on the domain, and it’s actually a pretty funny use of the name. As you can see from the image above, it’s pretty explanatory, enter some text in the box, hit speak, and you’ve got Trump’s voice saying whatever you wrote.

My guess is more than a few people will use this site/web app to prank call their friends or setup interesting voicemail greetings. The site was developed by Brandon Thomas who goes by the Twitter handle @echelon. Now let’s not confused Brandon with Braden because I could easily see someone reading this post quickly and thinking – “why did Braden build that site?” He didn’t Brandon from Atlanta did.

I think this flip shows just how powerful brandable domains can be and the ROI they can provide. That being said, this is a particularly topical brandable which I think lead to the quicker flip (Braden bought it only a few years ago). I’m also impressed at how quickly the buyer put a site on it but my guess is they already had the site ready to go, wanted this specific domain, and put the pieces together.

Congrats to both Braden and Brandon, great flip and pretty funny site, I might just be using this over the weekend to make some interesting phone calls 😉
