Two Quick Tips For Selling Your Domains Through Afternic, Aftermarket or Sedo

Someone was recently asking me for some tips and tricks for selling domains on marketplaces like Afternic or Sedo. They also asked me which I recommended. After spending almost six years using both I can tell you that I personally prefer Afternic. Don’t want to start a war here but from customer service to quality of the platform Afternic is just a better solution IMHO.

I try not to be controversial so I’ll leave it at that, I know some very awesome people at Sedo so want to make it clear that I’m not trying to slam Sedo in this post. If you want to sell your domains faster there are two quick tips that will definitely help you on either platform though since there’s a good chance you’ll end up listing on both.

One platform you also might not know about that I highly recommend is Aftermarket which is run by Thought Convergence. Aftermarket has a stellar user interface and great customer service and they’ve been working hard behind-the-scenes to add lots of awesome new features over the years.

So now you know the platforms I like, now onto the tips!

  1. Use expanded promotion options when possible – both Afternic and Sedo have ways to expose your domains to more people depending on where you have them registered. With Afternic, the Premium Promotion level exposes your domains 75 million searches/month vs. 25 million at the network promotion level. Just making this small change will triple the chances that someone will see your domains and make an offer.
  2. Properly categorize your domains – while many people search for domains, that’s not everyone. Some people like to browse and look through a particular category when they don’t have a specific domain in mind. If your domain is not categorized correctly they may never see it.

By making these changes will you instantly start selling more domains? Probably not. Listing your domains on platforms like Afternic, Aftermarket and Sedo are ways to increase the exposure your domains get to potential buyers but this is only part of a good sales strategy. I’ve always been a big believer in getting your names out there in as many places as possible, and when you do that, you may as well do it right.

As always feel free to share your own tips or comment on any of mine.
